Well fashion loving readers of The Bridal Edit, get ready because this feature is something special. Kate Halfpenny of Halfpenny London is one of our favourite bridal designers and when we were invited to the launch of her new collection, we cleared our diary. The Black Edit is Kate’s bold take on occasionwear and, as you’re about to see, it’s all kinds of special…
THE BLACK EDIT
When we read that The Black Edit would be ‘an unashamedly bold collection of exquisite pieces, fusing contemporary styling with a fashion sensibility’, we were excited. Not just a little bit excited either because Kate Halfpenny is a woman who knows how to create standout dresses.
What we really love is that Kate’s created this collection from her base as a bridal designer and this works SO well. Let’s face it, when you’re looking for a special occasion dress, it doesn’t get more ‘special’ than a wedding. It’s great to see those distinctive Halfpenny London bridal shapes and silhouettes in this new selection of dresses. Who wouldn’t want to wear one of these?
BRIDAL GONE BOLD
But we know what you’re thinking – these gowns aren’t wedding dresses. And you’re right. Kate’s definitely indulged her wilder side with some of these designs and it’s worked. It’s worked in a way that just makes us happy.
So, what’s to love? Well, the obvious answer is everything but let’s take a look at the design quirks and cues that we’re REALLY fallen for.
Firstly, let’s just say – separates. We’re still crushing big time on separates and for late night luxe and evening glam, separates are pretty much it. That combo of daring top with refined, uber elegant skirt just works in a way that makes us go weak at the knees. Weak, we tell you.
Then, there’s the fabrics. Revealing lace, luxe leathers and liquid satins combine in a way that’s just so right. And the mix of contrasting materials in each design is just spot on. In fact, we’d actually use the word ‘glorious’.
But what really stands out in The Black Edit are all those to-die-for design details. We’re talking statement bows, open backs and hello, the fringing. It’s the stuff of dreams. Honestly, can you imagine turning up on the red carpet in one of Kate’s designs? Yep, us too and we’re LOVING the thought.
Oh, and if you’re wondering if that’s Editor Laura with Kate Halfpenny AND Millie Mackintosh, you’re right. Get us onto that red carpet right now.
