Although &FOR LOVE turns five this year, the bridal journey for Angel Spendlove actually began a bit earlier than that; in 2009 to be exact. It was the year when she’d become a bride and had to come up with a solution on the eternal problem of what to wear. Being sure that she couldn’t be the only bride who didn’t dream of tiaras and ball gowns, Angel joined the wedding industry the same year in an effort to make bridal more current and fashionable. The brand’s first collection was launched in 2014 and really shook the industry with its niche, unconventional approach to bridal. Five years (and many successful collaborations) later, we met with the designer to share her view of the #coolbride movement:
Who is the & FOR LOVE bride?
Tell us about your current collection:
Our 2018 collection is probably my favourite one to date. It’s inspired by the film ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ and the Swan Lake ballet. This season, we played with the concept of dark romance and used a palette of black, white and silver, and added some cool and unexpected elements such as 18th century pearl cuffs and ombre lace. I would describe the collection as hyper-feminine with minimalist undertones. In fact, the collection comes out at the end of this month and we’re so excited!
What have you learned over the past five years ?
Oh Wow… what haven’t I learned?! It’s been a crazy ride but, most of all, I’ve learned a ton about running a business and how to be in charge of managing an ever growing team. In addition, I’ve learned to trust my gut and my instinct.
What’s in store for the next five years of business ?
Definitely more travelling! Plus, we will be introducing a resort collection at some point, not to mention some exciting jewelry collaborations coming up, which I’m really looking forward to.
Where can the brides-to-be find your collections?
We currently have 15 stockists all over the world and are carried in the UK, the USA, Canada, Europe and Australia.
